The brief for this project was to infill an unused, north facing courtyard to this family home. The clients wanted a contemporary kitchen/dining/ living space with lots of glazing and roof lights to fill the space with natural light. The design features a vaulted ceiling with large format glazing and sliding doors looking to the rear garden. The extension links to the dining room and kitchen, with some internal walls removed, creating a contemporary, open plan space. As part of our normal design service we looked at various design options, mainly focussing on how the roof would best work with the existing pitched roofs on 3 sides. Together with the client, we opted for a pitched, vaulted roof allowing substantial valley gutters to be created protecting the house from water ingress whilst creating a fantastic spacious internal room. Construction is planned for 2025.
