Our Clients wanted to extend their family home to increase living space, create a new master suite and provide more storage space for their outdoor equipment.
Their home is an older property with high ceilings downstairs, lower ceilings upstairs and incredible views up the river Tay. They had space to extend to the side of the house, having built a small extension to the rear a few years ago.
After meeting with the Clients to discuss their requirements and familiarise with the house we set to work producing some options for the design.
With the Clients having provided a very clear brief, there were several options for how the design could evolve.
Firstly to extend the shape of the existing roof and create another dormer window to the front of the house. This created a nice loft room but left little space for a new en-suite.
The second option was to create a new gable-fronted extension. This allowed a great sized room with en-suite to the rear and a glazed front with balcony to make the most of the incredible views.
A third option, similar to the second, was to lower the height of the roof and have less glazing to the front.
The extension incorporates a large master bedroom with glazed gable giving a panoramic view out across the river towards Dundee. To the rear is a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite.
The front elevation features the glazed gable over bi-fold doors at ground floor level, giving access from new playroom to the front garden.
The extension was modelled using 3D software. The Clients received each option as an interactive model which they could explore at their leisure on tablet, phone or laptop before making any decisions.
